Fried Green Tomato Sandwich


2 slices bread (I use sourdough or focaccia)
2 slices of cheese (I use various types)

The following 3 ingredients slice enough to cover the bread
Cut 1/4 inch thick slice green tomato cut into 1 (out of season I use zucchini or yellow squash)
Cut 1/4 inch thick slice of a red tomato
Cut 1/4 inch thick slice off a sweet onion.
1 jalapeno pepper cut into 1/4 inch thick slices
salt and pepper to taste


1. on medium heat fry the onion for a few minutes (it takes the longest to cook)
2. Add the green tomato slices (zucchini) and jalapeno pepper for 2 minutes a side
3. butter 1 side of each bread slice
4. put bread buttered sides together on a plate
5. place cheese slices on the bread, then jalapeno pepper, onion and the green tomato (zucchini)and red tomato
6. then put in fry pan and the other slice of bread on top
7. Brown to taste ( I time it to 2:40 to 3:00 minutes), turn over and brown the other side
8. Remove and enjoy
